Hello! I am so happy to be back over at Reasons to Skip the Housework to share another fun and easy craft idea with you! You may remember the Easy Dotted Egg tutorial that I shared with you last month. For those of you that may have missed my first contributor posts, I am Tasha from Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body where I blog about DIY renovations, crafts, organization, cleaning and other household tips. You may have seen some of my work on Pinterest, including my recent Anthropologie knock off projects such as these wood stacking trays or these candied letter desk clips that I made for a FRACTION of the cost of the originals.
Today I am going to share with you a fun and easy gift idea for Teacher Appreciation Week, which is just around the corner! If you are anything like me, you have tons of ribbon laying around from various projects that you have tackled over the years. This is what my ribbon stash looks like {I know, I know, I need to organize it!}.
Well, this project is a perfect reason to use some of that beautiful ribbon! I saw these adorable embellished paper clips on a recent trip to Michaels and realized I could make them for a fraction of the price.
Because I had all of the materials readily on hand, I made these for FREE! Read on for details on how to make your own embellished paper clips!
Materials needed for embellished paper clips:
- Thin ribbon
- Large paper clips
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Felt flowers
- Colorful card stock
Steps to make embellished paper clips:
1) Cut your ribbon 4 to 5 inches long. You can eyeball it–I didn’t measure!
2) Fold your ribbon in half then slide it in halfway through the TOP of the paper clip.
3) Take the two end pieces of ribbon and loop them through the folded end of the ribbon. Adjust it as needed to make the ribbon sit flat against the paper clip.
4) If you want to dress up your ribbon paper clips with a felt flower, add a dab of hot glue to the flower and glue it on.
5) For a fun way to present the gift to your child’s teachers, clip them to a piece of colorful card stock and write a note on it. I wrote “It takes a big heart to shape little minds!” You can write whatever you like.
That’s it! I love the versatility of this gift. Certainly, teachers can use paper clips, but they could also use these as bookmarks! Aren’t they cute?
Are you going to try this? If you do, I would love for you to stop by my blog, Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body, to let me know how yours turn out! And of course, I would love for you to follow along with me through social media! You can find me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Google Plus and Twitter.
